
Kimberly Colón

Mrs. Kimberly D. Colón serves as the Coordinator of Choral Activities for Spartanburg School District 7. She is also one of the two choir directors at Spartanburg High School where she directs the Honors Viking Chorale and co-directs the Corporation Show Choir as well as the new SHS Mixed Choir. Kimberly also serves as the Music Director for Spartanburg 7 district-wide musicals. Prior to coming to Spartanburg High School in 2015, Kimberly was the Director of Choirs at McCracken Middle School and Whitlock Junior High Schools, both in Spartanburg District 7 as well as Wauconda Middle School in Wauconda, Illinois. Kimberly holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and Choral Music Education from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and a Master of Arts from the University of Illinois, Springfield.
Mrs. Colón’s choirs constantly earned Superior ratings at SCMEA Middle and High School Choral Performance Assessments and has had choirs perform at the SCMEA State Music Conference in 2025 and 2014. She has presented at the South Carolina Association for Middle Level Education (SCAMLE) Annual State Convention (2015), was a recipient of DILA (Digital Innovation in Learning Awards) Teacher Trailblazer Honorable Mention Award (2014-15), and has served as clinician of the Spartanburg Sings Regional Honors Choir (2017).
Mrs. Colón, a National Board Certified Teacher, is a member of both NAfME (National Association for Music Education) and ACDA (American Choral Directors Association). Kimberly currently currently serves on the SCMEA Choral Performance Assessment Committee, was on the SCMEA Middle School Committee (2010-2013) and the South Carolina Visual and Performing Arts Standards Development Team (2010). Kimberly is an active member of the Greenville Chorale and has sung as a soloist with the Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra (2019).
Kimberly is starting her 19th year in District 7 and 24th year of teaching. She resides in Simpsonville, SC with her husband and twin daughters.

Alexa Cotran

Ms. Alexa Cotran is the director of the Honors Choristers Treble Ensemble, and co-director of the Corporation Show Choir and the new SHS Mixed Choir at Spartanburg High School. Alexa holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education with a Vocal Performance Certificate from the University of South Carolina Honors College, as well as a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia.
Alexa currently holds the Assistant Director position for the Spartanburg 7 district-wide musical. She also serves as one of the music directors and voice teachers at the Spartanburg Youth Theatre.
Prior to joining District 7, Alexa worked as the choir director at Muller Road Middle School in Richland 2. She served on the SCMEA State Choral Festival Committee and was chair for the middle school portion of the Midlands Choral Performance Assessment. Alexa also served as music director at the Town Theatre Youth Program in Columbia, SC, co-director of the Mercer University Youth Choir, and director of the youth choir at First Baptist Church of Christ in Macon, Georgia.
Alexa is a past member of the Limited Time Only Chamber Choir out of Columbia, SC. She is a current member of the American Choral Directors’ Association (ACDA), as well as the South Carolina Music Educators’ Association (SCMEA).
